Background

In Mongolia desertification is taking a big toll on the Climate and also on the people that live there. The reason it's occurring is because of overgrazing of animals, deforestation, drought, and urbanization.
The people of the country are the main ones who are causing this issue. They are the reason of the deforestation and overgrazing.

Location

In Inner Mongolia is mainly where this is occurring. But many parts of China such as Beijing are having to deal with this issue also. They get really bad sand storms from the deserts and also are experiencing with overgrazing and urbanization also so they have deserts there.

Development

In Mongolia and China the great wall was constructed by nomadic herders in 200 B.C. In the 14th century the Kingdom was at a decline because of an invasion and warfare. Mongolia is the home of the historic Mongols. The issue has gotten worse over time because action is not being taken about the issue so desertification is worsening.

Impact

Desertification in Mongolia has effected a lot of things such as the people, the environment, economics, and government. It has effected the people because they have not been able to produce enough food and also the dust has caused diseases such as asthma. The environment is effected because the topsoil on the ground has blown away and the climate is worsening, as well as the water supply it is getting depleted. The economics are suffering because not much is being able to grow plant wise and the livestock is losing food. And lastly the government has to start to manage this problem more effectively.

Future

This issue will end up resulting in no farmable land and eventually the country won't be able to support its people anymore. To help this issue a group called the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region in China is concerned about the issue and are reducing the numbers of stock for herders and wanting to build factories for another incomeand also make a list of things to do about the issue and follow it.

Big Picture

My topic has actually effected the climate, it has made the climate a lot worse has made it hotter and more desert like. Also its effected by the people. The people have disturbed the environment and it has really taken a turn for the worse. My topic mostly relates to environmental change because the people are affecting the environment and changing it to make it fit for the people of the country. My topic will help other people understand other places because they will see what it takes for this thing happen and they wont allow it to happen in their country.
